ACCESS TO THE JOY OF PETS FOR ALL

Today, there are pets in 2/3 of all American households. Unfortunately, one in ten households in America lives under the poverty line. This means that there are millions of households where family members have to make difficult decisions around shelter, food and healthcare and it can mean that pets – members of the family as well – may be surrendered.

Because Michelson Found Animals believes that everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status, deserves the right to the joy of pets, we launched Better Neighbor Project (BNP) to deliver pet food and wellness services to communities most in need. Our goal is to keep pets with the families who love them.

Better Neighbor Project partners with human service organizations to develop collaborative programs that support under-served communities and their pets. Our collaborations help make emergency shelters pet-inclusive, add pet food and supply distributions to existing food pantries, offer low-cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinics in the communities with the most need, and more.

PARTNERSHIPS

By partnering with local human service organizations, we are able to reach and offer resources directly to those most in need, such as individuals experiencing homelessness, communities struggling with high unemployment, and individuals who have been impacted by the justice system. Like all pet parents, they see pets as part of the family and our partners help us ensure these families remain whole, happy and healthy.

Civic Partners

By partnering with elected officials across the city, district, and state level, BNP is able to deeply understand, reach, and serve the needs of specific neighborhoods and communities across Los Angeles. We pride ourselves in our ability to bring together local leadership and animal welfare resources that help keep people and pets together through this crisis.
