Together for Los Angeles: How Michelson Found Animals is Supporting Pets and Families in 2025

All of us at Michelson Found Animals (MFA) know this is a challenging time for Los Angeles and the communities we serve. Recent events have left many feeling unsettled, and like so many of you, we’re carrying that weight. At MFA, we stand firmly with our fellow Angelenos, including the animals who depend on us, and remain deeply committed to providing care, protection, and support as we navigate these uncertain times together.

A Year of Resilience and Service

We began 2025 facing an unexpected crisis: the devastating wildfires that tore through our Los Angeles communities. While no one could have anticipated such destruction so early in the year, our team jumped into action without hesitation. Through our Better Neighbor Project (BNP) and partnerships across the region, we provided emergency resources to pets and families displaced by the wildfires, including over 42 tons of pet food. You can read more about our wildfire relief efforts here.

Since those early days of 2025, our work hasn’t slowed. The BNP team has continued to host Pet Wellness Days across Los Angeles, offering free resources, including hygiene and wellness services, pet food, supplies, and more to families who need it most.

Our Spay & Neuter Initiative (SNI) team has also been hard at work, coordinating free spay and neuter events to reduce pet overpopulation, support animal shelters, and promote responsible pet ownership across our city.

2025 Impact So Far: By the Numbers

Better Neighbor Project

  • 108,966 lbs of pet food distributed directly to pet owners
  • 85,073 lbs of pet food donated to other organizations, most of which were to support those affected by the LA wildfires
  • 12,645 pets served
  • 4,354 families supported
  • 64 event partners and vendors collaborated

Spay & Neuter Initiative

  • Since January, nearly 2,100 animals in Greater Los Angeles received spay and neuter procedures through over 24 subsidized community clinics generously funded, in part, by the Robert & Erika Brunson Fund.
  • In partnership with Animal Balance, MFA and the Robert & Erika Brunson Fund provided grant funding for five high-quality, high-volume (HQHVSN) clinics alongside LA Animal Services. In June, one additional clinic focused on community animals in partnership with Paws for Life took place, with 400 owned dogs receiving spay and neuter services free of charge.

A New Hub for Pet Families and Partners

We’re also excited to share that the Better Neighbor Project now has its own online hub, designed to make it easier than ever for the LA community to access our resources. Whether you’re a pet parent looking for support, a community partner seeking collaboration, or someone ready to volunteer, our new BNP homepage has you covered.

Standing With Los Angeles During Uncertain Times

This summer, we’re showing up in every way we can. From distributing over 2,000 microchips to help keep pets safe during the Fourth of July, to supporting free and low-cost spay/neuter clinics, to coordinating free pet supply deliveries for those in need.

During these challenging times, as many of our neighbors and immigrant communities face fear and uncertainty due to ongoing ICE raids, MFA’s Better Neighbor Project team is committed to showing up with compassion and support. We’re organizing drop-offs of essential pet food to ensure families don’t have to worry about basic needs for their beloved animals during moments of crisis.

If you or someone you know needs pet food, click here to submit a request to our team.

If you’d like to join us in this effort, we’re looking for volunteers to help us pack supplies at our warehouse or deliver them throughout Los Angeles County. You can sign up here: foundanimals.org/bnp-volunteer.

Together, we can continue to be a reliable source of support for people and pets throughout Los Angeles.

Together, We Keep Showing Up

We’re proud of the impact we’ve made so far in 2025, but we know our work is far from done. In every neighborhood, at every clinic, and through every act of care, we’ve seen how powerful it is when communities come together for the well-being of both people and pets.

To everyone who has volunteered, donated, partnered, or simply shared a resource: thank you. Your support allows us to meet this moment with compassion, resilience, and action.

As we move into the second half of the year, the MFA team remains deeply committed to standing alongside our neighbors because every family deserves to feel safe, supported, and whole, pets included.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We’re in it together.
