Michelson Found Animals was founded in 2005 with a mission of saving pets and enriching lives. With more than $100 million committed to animal welfare, MFA seeks to reduce shelter euthanasia in Los Angeles and across the country.
It operates a range of initiatives, including providing grants and fostering partnerships that put resources in the hands of communities in need, carrying out research that promotes pet-inclusive housing policies, and more. In the 16 years since its launch, MFA has helped more than 8 million pets and their families.

🐾 It’s #NationalVolunteerWeek!
To our amazing volunteers: thank you for showing up with compassion, dedication, and heart. You make it possible for people and pets to stay together, and your impact is felt every single day. We truly couldn’t do this without you.
This week, we’re highlighting one of our incredible volunteer partners: @factfamily_nonprofit (Family, Adult, & Child Therapies). FACT provides evidence-based services to people of all ages living with developmental disabilities or behavioral health conditions, helping foster inclusion, choice, and community participation. 🎥 Watch the video at the link in our bio to learn more.
Now is the time to submit nominations for the 2026 Pets and Housing Awards! These awards honor the trailblazers, innovators, and community champions who are making housing more welcoming for pets and their people. We want to celebrate the outstanding efforts of leaders who are redefining what it means to welcome pets.
Submit your nomination and create recognition for strides in pet-inclusivity. Winners will be announced virtually, making it easy to celebrate together.

On October 11, our Healthy Pets at the Park event at Valleydale Park in Azusa, CA, brought together compassion, collaboration, and over 200 pet families who received free wellness care, food, and supplies.
We’re deeply grateful to the @lacountyparks for hosting us in this beautiful space — and a special thank you to our partner LA County Supervisor @hildasolis for her continued leadership and dedication to keeping pets and families healthy.
In celebration of #AdoptAShelterDogMonth, the @lacoanimals joined us and helped four dogs find their forever homes — including two adopted by one of our very own Better Neighbor Project volunteers!
None of this would have been possible without all our incredible partners at @thepawmission, who worked alongside our Spay & Neuter team to provide free services, and the many volunteers who made the day a success. Special thanks to @careforequity for their donation of @kismet pet food.
Watch our recap video to see the happy faces, new pet families, and the power of our community coming together to care for both people and pets.

As food and care costs continue to rise, more pet owners are being forced to make difficult decisions.
We’re grateful to @spectrumnews1socal and reporter Tara Lynn Wagner for shining a light on this urgent issue — and for featuring our Better Neighbor Project Senior Program Manager, Victoria Piar, who shared:
“Pet food costs are just continuing to rise... We’ve talked to families having to choose to give their pets their own food from the fridge. It’s an issue that goes beyond animal welfare — it’s a public health issue. If pets are cared for, they don’t have to be relinquished to shelters.”
Thank you to our friends at @pasadenahumane for all you do to support families and pets in need. Together, we’re committed to keeping pets with the people who love them.
If you’re considering adding a furry family member to your home, now is the time to adopt.
