My Dog Is My Home Open House at PATH Los Angeles, Sponsored by Michelson Found Animals

The human-animal bond is a powerful one, and for many people, their pets are more than just animals. They are family members. That’s why it can be so difficult for people who are experiencing homelessness to give up their pets. Fortunately, there is a growing movement to allow pets in shelters. This practice is called co-sheltering. Co-sheltering programs allow people to stay in shelters with their pets, providing them with a safe and stable place to stay while they work towards finding permanent housing.

Michelson Found Animals is honored to support the work of My Dog Is My Home, a leader in this effort to keep pets and people together. At their most recent open house at PATH Los Angeles, sponsored by MFA, Lil Bub’s Big Fund, and Maddie’s Fund, 37 people across homeless services and animal welfare came together, representing 20 organizations both near and far (even as far as Longmont, CO!) to learn about the 15-year evolution of PATH’s outlook and practices on integrating animals into their services.

“PATH makes me feel like I will never be without my dog, and I’m so grateful.”– Krystal, a PATH resident. Krystal is part of PATH’s pet program, a program created as a solution to support people with pets facing homelessness. Since launching this program, they have found it has only brought vitality and love into their community, and they hope their practices influence others to integrate co-sheltering into their programs.
