June Is Adopt a Cat Month – Celebrate with MFA and the Little Lion Foundation!
At Michelson Found Animals (MFA), June is one of our favorite months of the year, it’s Adopt a Cat Month, a time to celebrate our feline friends and shine a light on the organizations working tirelessly to give them the love, care, and forever homes they deserve.
To honor this special month, we’re thrilled to spotlight one of our incredible grantees and partners: The Little Lion Foundation. Since 2020, we’ve proudly supported Little Lion’s mission to save the lives of vulnerable cats and kittens across Southern California, and together, we’ve helped provide thousands of pets and families with free, life-saving care.
A Fierce Heart for Felines: Meet The Little Lion Foundation
The Little Lion Foundation was founded on the belief that every cat and kitten deserves a chance at life. What started as a passionate rescue effort has grown into a vital community resource for underserved pet families in Long Beach and beyond. Their dedication to kittens, especially neonatal and high-risk cases, has saved countless lives and changed the future for cats in need.
Working alongside our Better Neighbor Project, Little Lion has delivered an impressive range of free wellness services at our community events, including:
- Vaccinations
- Spay and neuter procedures
- Microchipping
- Flea prevention
- Cat adoptions
“It brings us so much joy to partner with The Little Lion Foundation and support their mission to care for cats and the communities who love them. We’re incredibly grateful for the compassionate, dedicated team behind this work and proud of all we’ve accomplished together at our Better Neighbor Project events. Watching them grow and open their new clinic is truly inspiring, we’re excited to see their continued success and the lasting impact they’ll make as even more cats and families receive the care they deserve.”
— Victoria Piar, Senior Program Manager, Better Neighbor Project, MFA

These services don’t just help individual pets, they reduce shelter overcrowding, prevent disease, and support healthy, happy communities.
A New Home for Care: Little Lion’s New Clinic
We’re excited to share that the Little Lion Foundation has officially opened the doors to its new Long Beach Community Cat Program (LBCCP) clinic. This is an innovative milestone in the foundation’s mission to provide high-quality, low-cost services to cats and the people who love them.
Through MFA’s Strategic Grants, we proudly provided $50,000 in initial seed funding to help launch this clinic as part of our new accelerator initiative aimed at building sustainable solutions in animal welfare. This clinic is already making an impact by offering vital services such as TNR (trap-neuter-return), spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, and wellness exams for both community and owned cats.
“Partnering with MFA and BNP has truly opened our eyes to the depth of need in our community and has played a meaningful role in the growth of the Little Lion Foundation. With the support of Found Animals, Long Beach Animal Care Services, and our local shelter partners, we’ve been able to open our new clinic and expand our reach to help even more cats in need. We love participating in BNP events, our volunteers find so much joy in directly helping people and their pets. I’m incredibly excited to continue our partnership not only at BNP events but also at our new clinic, where we can work together to build a stronger, more compassionate community and reach even more families in need. We’re deeply grateful for the continued support from Found Animals and for their commitment to uplifting the entire animal welfare community. At the heart of everything we do is a love for cats and the belief that every one of them deserves a chance to thrive.”
— Claudia Otis, Executive Director, The Little Lion Foundation
As shelters across the region face growing pressure, clinics like this are critical in expanding access to care and addressing the long-term needs of animals and their families. We’re proud to support this model and look forward to seeing more community-based resources emerge in response to the current animal welfare crisis.

Microchips Save Lives: Our June Clinic Donation
Ahead of the 4th of July, a time when more pets go missing than any other time of the year, MFA proudly donated 100 microchips to the Little Lion Foundation for use at their upcoming June clinics. This initiative is part of a proactive effort to prevent lost pets and keep families together during a high-risk season.
Our MFA team was on-site at a recent event with Little Lion and witnessed firsthand the compassion, care, and commitment their team brings to the community. It’s clear they’re not just providing services, they’re creating trust and building a lasting impact.
Microchipping remains one of the most effective ways to reunite lost pets with their families. It’s safe, quick, affordable, and can mean the difference between heartbreak and homecoming.
In addition, as part of our ongoing commitment to accessible pet care, MFA’s Spay & Neuter Initiative proudly sponsored 150 procedures during this same clinic with Little Lion Foundation. This collaboration reflects our shared mission to reduce pet overpopulation and ensure more animals receive the care they need. By providing free spay and neuter services, we’re helping keep pets healthy, families supported, and shelters less crowded.

We’re grateful to support this important work and look forward to partnering on more clinics to protect pets and strengthen communities across Southern California.

When you adopt, you give a cat a second chance. When you foster, you save lives by making space for more animals to be rescued. And in return? You gain a loyal, loving companion who will brighten your life every single day.
Why We Love Cats
Cats are playful, curious, independent, and endlessly entertaining. They’re lap warmers, zoomie experts, and purring therapists. Whether you’re a lifelong cat lover or just getting to know the magic of feline friendship, there’s no better time to celebrate everything that makes cats the purr-fect companions.
This month, we honor all the people and partners, like the Little Lion Foundation, who make a difference for cats every single day. Let’s help more kitties find loving homes and support the organizations that never give up on them. Happy Adopt a Cat Month!
