The shelters are unable to bottle feed them, and they will be put to sleep upon arrival, unless fosters are available. Please apply directly to your local shelter to become a bottle baby foster parent, and you get first priority at adopting that baby when it turns 8 weeks old THIS CAT IS CURRENTLY AT THE L.A. COUNTY DOWNEY ANIMAL CARE CENTER. To obtain further information on these cats/kittens, call the Downey Shelter at (562) 940-6898, or visit in person (we suggest calling with the Pet ID# prior to driving to the shelter to insure the pet you are interested in is still available for adoption) Our group's email link in this posting will not reach the shelter. PET ID# & AGE: A4448808, A4448806 3 months old ***DOWNEY ANIMAL SHELTER*** 11258 South Garfield Avenue, Downey, CA 90242 (562) 940-6898 Monday Thursday: 12:00 PM 7:00 PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 10:00 AM 5:00 PM http://animalcare.lacounty.gov (check both the Adoptable AND the Lost & Found section for adoptable animals). All animals at this shelter MAY become IN DANGER OF EUTHANASIA 5 days after it arrives as a stray, or immediately after it arrives as an owner surrender because the shelter is badly overcrowded with animals. They don't get enough adopters, don't have enough cages for all the animals, and are required by law to continue taking in any animals the public brings them. They are short staffed because they are government funded and people tend to vote for education as a priority over animal care, so they dont always have enough employees or volunteers to answer the phones, and when they do, hold times can be long. Please don't give up on this animal in need!!!!! If you are able to reach the shelter's call center, they can give you the updated availability of the animal. If it is available, you should ask to be transferred directly to the Downey shelter itself. Then ask them to note on the animals record your name, phone number, and when you are coming to meet the cat, in hopes they will keep it alive until your arrival. Then PLEASE VISIT THE SHELTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN PERSON.The summer is the time of year when the shelters are the most crowded. Please consider volunteering at the shelter. It may take 2-3 months for a volunteer orientation to be offered so please apply now. http://animalcare.lacounty.gov PLEASE NOTE: THE SHELTER DOES NOT HAVE EMAIL AND THE EMAIL GIVEN ON THIS WEBSITE DOES NOT REACH THE DOWNEY SHELTER. It only reaches the volunteers at Friends of Shelter Pets who have never met these animals and don't have any further information on them. If you are not ready to commit to one of their shelter cats but would like to foster an animal, please contact several local rescue organizations, and see if any of them will agree to rescue the animal if you foster it. Right now, we are not able to do this for you, since we are a small rescue and unable to commit to the medical bills of any new fosters. Some other ways to volunteer- Transport shelter animals from the shelter to rescue groups, Donate old unwanted blankets and dog sweaters to shelter or our dog sweater drive or volunteer directly at a shelter in need.
