February was National Spay/Neuter Month! To celebrate, Found Animals donated $30,000 to our spay/neuter partners; FixNation, Clinico and AngelDogs Foundation. Scroll down to learn more about these great organizations who are creating an impact and making a difference each and every day.
Clinico works to reduce animal shelter intake by providing low-cost spay/neuter services to underserved communities in the Los Angeles area. They opened their second facility on the campus of the LAAS Harbor Animal Care Center in June 2009. Another location in Pico Rivera has been open since June 2008. Clinico offers low-cost services to all pet owners, and additional discounts are available to those with an annual income of less than $40,000. For more information or to make an appointment, call 1-888-WE-SPAY-LA or visit www.clinico.org.
Sterilization of companion pets is a key strategy in the fight to reduce shelter euthanasia. Accidental and unwanted litters contribute to stray and feral populations and crowd the shelter system. And even when animals from an “oops” litter are placed in homes by their owners, these pets are taking homes that could have gone to shelter animals. Please do your part to minimize shelter euthanasia by sterilizing your pet!
Found Animals is dedicated to educating the public on the importance of sterilization and works to make services affordable and accessible. The Foundation provides grant funding to high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter providers in the Los Angeles area and supports development of non-surgical sterilization through the Michelson Prize & Grants in Reproductive Biology.
Found Animals currently partners with three organizations in the Los Angeles area to ensure affordable sterilization services are available to the community. These organizations rely on donor funding in order to provide subsidized services to needy owners and animals, so please consider making a donation to support their work.
FixNation operates a free, full-time spay/neuter clinic for homeless cats, serves as a one-stop shop for Trap-Neuter-Return, and provides low-cost spay/neuter for tame cats. Their state-of-the-art facility near the Burbank airport opened in July 2008. For more information or to make an appointment, call 818-524-CATS or visit www.fixnation.org.
AngelDogs Foundation operates a mobile surgical unit, providing high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter and educational services to needy populations in the Antelope Valley region of Los Angeles and Kern Counties. This 31 foot long hospital on wheels got on the road in May 2009 and currently operates 4-5 days per week.
