Programs
Each year approximately 6 - 8 million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters and 3 - 4 million are euthanized.  In 2007, municipal shelters in the Los Angeles area took in approximately 166,000 animals, of which 87,000 were euthanized.

The majority of animals euthanized in shelters are healthy, adoptable pets, put down for no reason other then the lack of a home. Found Animals aims to reduce the number of animals entering shelters each year and increase the positive outcomes for animals already in the shelter system by concentrating efforts in the following areas:

- Spay/neuter
- Resources for pet owners
- Adoption
