There’s an “Angel” Fighting the War in L.A. County… One Snip at a Time!
May 2009, Los AngelesEVERY YEAR at this time, when the weather gets warmer and the season changes, female cats and dogs go into heat. ALL shelters across America begin to fill up with an over-abundance of kittens and puppies and euthanasia rates shoot way up due to the lack of homes available. These animals are victims, with NO chance of a life filled with the love of a family, due to public ignorance of spay and neuter.

With cat and dog litters skyrocketing and the economy in the toilet, there’s no better time than NOW for the “Tiptonizer,” (fondly called by anyone who knows her) Lisa Tipton and her incredible organization the AngelDogs Foundation (www.angeldogsfoundation.org) to take action. In Los Angeles County, where dogs and cats are pouring into the shelters way faster than they’re being adopted, the shelters are taking in animals and killing them faster than any other time officials can remember. This is exactly where you’ll find Lisa and her AngelDogs out in the trenches and fully armed, with her 31 ft. mobile spay & neuter clinic, fighting the ongoing war on “overpopulation,” 7 days a week.

Tipton states, "Most of the female dogs and cats that we’re currently helping are in heat and/or pregnant. This is the season to cut back on shelter impounds by utilizing an aggressive spay and neuter program. Most of the offspring would be shelter-bound, or simply dumped to wander the streets or the desert and fend for themselves."

AngelDogs Foundation is a not-for-profit organization formed solely for the purpose of providing mobile spay/neuter and outreach/educational services to companion animal owners in The County of Los Angeles and The County of Kern. Lisa founded the organization in August 2008, in the hopes of educating the public on spay and neuter and how “Sterilization is the ONLY way to gain control of this massive, worldwide epidemic.” Tipton states, “We will never rescue or adopt our way out of this mess.” That being said, Lisa decided that a 31 ft. long mobile veterinary clinic would be the most effective way to educate the public, as well as offer low cost, high volume spay/neuter services to the communities that need it most. They also provide donated microchips free of charge and will administer vaccinations at a reasonable cost, if the owner elects.

Quick-spay, the sterilization technique used at the clinic, was developed by Dr. W. Marvin Mackie to help tackle the critical need for humane control of pet overpopulation. This technique produces results that are consistently superior to the mainstream surgery, allowing a surgeon to complete each procedure with much more precision, in a much shorter time frame with fewer complications. This highly developed technique results in completing a higher volume of safe sterilizations within a much shorter period of time.

Tipton's team consists of veterinarians that are proficient in high volume spay/neuter, supported by veterinary technicians that are friendly, bright and highly efficient. The team is deeply committed to the prevention of pet overpopulation, as well as serving the low income public and making a difference in the communities that they serve.

The AngelDogs mobile clinic team is sponsored by PetSmart Charities (www.petsmartcharities.org) , Found Animals Foundation (www.foundanimals.org) & the Coalition for Pets and Public Safety (www.spay4la.org). They’ll be at various locations throughout the LA and Kern County areas, 7 days a week. You can view their calendar for exact dates, times and locations on the AngelDogs Foundation website at:

Fees for spaying and neutering are $110 for dogs and $90 for cats, including a free Avid microchip and a rabies vaccination. Other yearly vaccinations are available for dogs and cats for an additional $10. There are no additional charges, and each pet is given a post-surgery pain injection to keep them comfortable. In heat and pregnant animals are also accepted at no extra charge. Angel Dogs does accept vouchers from local organizations, further bringing down the cost of the procedure. If you’re unsure about how and where you can get a spay/neuter voucher, the AngelDogs Foundation will be happy to help, when you call to schedule your appointment.

Pet overpopulation is a community problem that requires constructive community involvement and unity to solve. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100-percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats and a proven way to reduce the vast numbers of animals who are born only to suffer and die prematurely and without a family who loves them.
