High Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinarian |
Job Description: High Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinarian Position Overview: Responsible for daily care and sterilization of surgical patients in a high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic using established medical protocol and following organizational policies and procedures. Quality patient care is first and foremost. This is a contract, per diem role. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards and provision of veterinary care in a safe, competent, professional and humane manner.
- Maintain and provide proof of a current license to practice veterinary medicine in required states.
- Perform surgical sterilizations at a rate of at least 30 animals per day.
- Examine animals pre-op to determine their ability to withstand surgery.
- Examine animals post-op as necessary to ensure appropriate healing.
- Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow up care.
- Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians.
- Supervise post-op rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery.
- Provide quality service to clients, volunteers, and staff recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization.
The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:
- Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent required with at least three years of surgical experience
- License in good standing with state veterinary board.
- Experience in all aspects of spay/neuter surgery including prepping animals for surgery, dispersing anesthesia, surgery, and post-operative management of veterinary patients.
- Ability to perform at least 30 surgeries per day; experience in high quality/high volume spay neuter is helpful
- Patience and tolerance with all animals and willingness to provide direct care to cats and dogs of all sizes and types and a desire to maintain high level of care for all animals in order to ensure their comfort and safety.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals/groups
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity.
- Lifting animals of all sizes, bending, stooping and walking on a daily basis.
- Working at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion.
