Since 2008, Found Animals has been helping to increase the rate and quality of pet adoptions, thereby lowering the alarming rate of pet euthanasia. Our small start up organization continues to affect big change. Below are some of our past achievements.
- Aimee Gilbreath accepts role as Executive Director, becoming the Foundation’s first full-time employee.
- Found Animals hosts its first adoption event, the Big Lick Adopt-a-thon & Ice Cream Social at the West Los Angeles Animal Care Center. More than 300 people attended, 43 animals were adopted including 28 dogs, 12 cats and 3 rabbits representing a 438% increase over the previous Saturday.
- Found Animals announces the Michelson Prize & Grants in Reproductive Biology offering $25 million for a non-surgical cat and dog sterilant as well as up to $50 million in grants to help further the research.
- The All American Tails Adopt-a-Pet Extravaganza and Pet Pit Bull Contest showcases “Ambassa-dogs” of the often misunderstood “pit bull” at the East Valley Animal Care Center as well as throughout Southern California. Over 450 people attended the event, 69 animals were adopted: 44 dogs– including 5 pit bulls and 25 cats, representing a 176% increase over the same Saturday in 2007.
- The first Found Animals LIVE Cam is launched, promoting “Adopt, Don’t Shop” for the Save a Stray for the Holidays event. Max Silva and Jason Lugavere, of Current TV host the ceremony, awarding the adopters with “shelter star” pups at Healthy Spot in Santa Monica.
